First, recruits learned about the First Aid Kit and what you find inside it.
Second, a short Theory session comprising the basics like Making a Diagnosis, Pulse Rate, Breathing Rate as well as Wounds and Bleeding. Recruits also learned a little bit about Scalds and Burns and Shock.
Next up, some fun! Bandaging! Recruits got the chance to get some hands-on experience and practice their bandaging (wrapping skills, ha ha) on their friends.
Then, we moved on the CPR. DR. ABC, kids!
Finally, Transportation! Recruits were especially excited to see the stretcher. Right?
That concludes the First Aid Crash Course 2009. We hope you guys had a blast!
Pros:
- Very productive; we managed to teach a lot and the recruits managed to learn a lot
- It was fun!
- We had lessons in classrooms so it wasn't hot and uncomfortable like it is on Wednesdays
- Juniors were incredibly responsive
- School doesn't allow too many Saturday meetings :(
- Stay in St John too long and you find yourself looking more and more like our Training Apparatus :P eg.
Ha ha, just kidding :P
