Report : #1 General Meeting (14.01.2009)

For the 1st General Meeting of the year, the BOD decided that we have truckloads of FUN to welcome the recruits to St John Ambulance Malaysia.

After all the formalities; introduction to St John Ambulance Malaysia, introduction of the Board of Directors etc, the fun began.

The games started off with all members and recruits dividing themselves into four groups; Group Cicak, Group Owl, Group Pikachu and Group Duck. How did they get into their groups, you ask? Each person was given a small sheet of paper, with an animal/Pokemon written on it. Then, they had to make the 'cry' of the animal/Pokemon to find other members of their group.

Each group was then given two hula hoops. Obviously, they were supposed to pass it from one person to another to another to another and to another, until it once again, reaches the first person. They were given time limits. Each round, the time limit would get shorter, and they would have to move faster.

Once that was done with, we played the 'Ampere' game. This game tested co-operation between members. The aim of the game was to pass the 'current' from the Game Master all the way to the other end; without saying anything of course. The first group to pass the 'current' all the way to other end was deemed the winner of the round.

Later, all groups combined to form one body and we all danced to our favourite Action Song: 'Besided'.

Before being dismissed, we sang loudly and proudly to one of our many Interactive Songs; 1,2,3,4... 4,3,2,1.... oh you know the drill.

That concluded our 1st General Meeting of 2009. Needless to say, all members and recruits were treated to a good time.

We, the Board of Directors, would like to thank each and every one of you who made that meeting a success.

Our very important mission was to clean the First Aid Room.

Since it hadn't been completely cleaned in a very long time, we decided to give it a much-needed makeover!

Our First Aid Room Was...

Step 1 : Empty Room.
It may sound simple enough, but it took a lot of hard work. We had to empty all the cupboards before carrying them out because they were so heavy. The Red Crescent members found and killed at least 5 cockroaches from inside their cupboard. And we had to deal with an ant's nest in ours.

So we brought everything out; cupboards, beds, tables, chairs, sofa... EVERYTHING!

Step 2: Paint walls.
We weren't prepared to do this. So a few of us had to travel (by foot) all the way to Uptown to get paint, thinner, brushes etc...

We chose Delicate Yellow; we thought it'd be nice to make the room look all bright and cheery (:

Before painting, we scraped the peeling paint off the walls. Once that was done, we started painting!

Step 3: Throw anything and everything useless.
We enjoyed this thoroughly. We got rid of many, many things.
The Red Crescent members were a little reluctant to throw their things away but in the end, we convinced them that it was for the better (: less clutter = better place.

Step 4: Put everything back in haste.
That's right. At 4 pm, we were all tired and decided to call it a day. Luckily, the newly painted walls dried just in time. We put everything back in the room and set another date to resume work.

Date : 7 January 2009
Time : 2.30 pm - 5.00 pm

We started off with removing all the things in the room out of the room (again). And we threw more stuff like the BSMM's big wooden cupboard and our grey closet. We bought a nice, new shelf as a replacement and we even fixed it up ourselves!

We reorganized all the First Aid Equipment and brought all the furniture back in.

The room now has a new look. It's brighter, shinier and just a happier place to be in. It's less cluttered, more spacious and a more condusive place to treat casualties, practise procedures and have meetings! Although it isn't perfect, or as canggih as we'd all like it to be, I can very well assure you that we're now a step (okay, maybe 5 steps) closer to having the perfect-est First Aid Room ever.

In conclusion?
Mission accomplished.
